Rumor: Samsung is in talks with Lenovo to sell PC branch
Samsung is said to be in talks with Lenovo about the sale of its PC branch to the Chinese manufacturer. Things are not going well for Samsung’s division, which makes laptops, among other things. In recent years, the South Korean hardware maker has already stopped selling laptops in Europe.
The talks have been going on for months and both companies are not getting much further, reports South Korean analyst site The Bell. Samsung wants to sell the branch, because things are not going well at the moment and the manufacturer no longer sees any point in further developing laptops and PCs.
Samsung stopped selling PCs in Europe in 2014. It still made hardware that came out in other parts of the world, including many laptops and a cylindrical PC. The move shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Samsung recently sold all of its printer division to HP.
Lenovo has been the manufacturer with the largest market share in the PC market for several years now. The Chinese manufacturer more often buys business units from other large companies. It took over Thinkpad from IBM twelve years ago.
