Rumor: Samsung is coming with Gear 360 VR camera
The site Sammobile reports that Samsung will soon come with a virtual reality camera, which can record 360-degree images with a resolution of 3840×1920 pixels. It is intended that the camera can be connected to a telephone via bluetooth.
It is unclear when the official announcement by Samsung will follow, Sammobile suspects that this will be shortly after the announcement of the Galaxy S7 in February. The site also reports that so far it can only be confirmed that the camera is compatible with the Galaxy S7. The camera would also be equipped with its own battery and an unknown amount of built-in memory.
The camera can record in different ways, namely in ‘vr view’ and ‘dual view’. In addition, there are possibilities to record panoramic, accelerated and slowed down. When shooting in ‘single lens’ mode, the device can detect an angle of 180 degrees, with a resolution of 1920×1920 pixels. In ‘dual lens’ mode, an all-round image can be recorded with a resolution of 3840×1920 pixels.
It should also be possible to stream the recorded image directly to a connected phone. It is not yet clear whether it is also possible to stream to other devices. It is obvious that the camera can be used in combination with a phone that is present in Gear VR glasses. It is not clear whether this is possible. The price of the camera is also unknown for the time being.
