Rumor: Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 gets Unisoc-soc
According to a new rumor, Samsung would provide its Galaxy Tab A8 with a soc from the Chinese processor designer Unisoc. Until now, Samsung used socs from Qualcomm, MediaTek and its own Exynos division in its cheaper tablets.
It concerns a Unisoc T618, writes 91Mobiles. That’s a 12nm soc from 2019 with two ARM Cortex A75 cores at up to 2GHz and six Cortex A55 cores at 1.8GHz, assisted by a Mali G52MP2 GPU of the Bifrost generation with a clock speed of 950MHz. It is a soc for budget models. Unisoc was a little-known name until some time ago, but now has a market share of around 9 percent in the smartphone market, thinks analyst firm Counterpoint.
In the Galaxy Tab A7, Samsung used a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 soc, while the Tab A 2019 from two years ago has a Samsung Exynos 7904 under the hood. Last year’s Tab A7 Lite came with a MediaTek soc. It is the first time that Samsung has switched to the Chinese processor designer for its cheaper Tab A tablet.
The Tab A8 reportedly has a 10.5″ screen with 1920×1200 pixels. The housing is said to measure 246.7×161.8×6.9mm and is equipped with a 7040mAh battery. It is not yet clear when the tablet will be released.
