Rumor: Samsung and HP come with Chrome OS all-in-ones
Samsung and HP are set to release all-in-one computers with Chrome OS in 2014. They would follow LG, which introduced its Chromebase with Google’s operating system at the end of December. The manufacturers try to reduce costs with the OS.
Samsung would release three more Chrome OS products in 2014, including all-in-ones, Digitimes reports citing sources at suppliers in Taiwan. Details about the all-in-one systems are not yet available. Computer makers are looking for ways to cut costs as the PC market has started a declining trend in sales.
HP also previously criticized Microsoft, now that the group has become a direct competitor with its Surface tablets. This may also make the manufacturers inclined to look for alternatives to Windows, while Windows 8 may also not have the popularity that the manufacturers had hoped for.
At the end of 2013, LG already announced its Chromebase. This PhD student has a 21.5″ screen with an IPS panel, which offers a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. As with Chromebooks, there is an SSD with 16GB storage memory. Chrome OS would have acquired a significant share, especially in the educational market. That is not certain because precise figures on the popularity of Google’s OS are lacking.
