Qualcomm is planning a new naming scheme for its Snapdragon line of socs. Until now, the company’s upcoming high-end processor was thought to come out as Snapdragon 855, but that may be Snapdragon 8150.

At least that is what the German site WinFuture claims based on documents from third parties. The site has a reputation for bringing early information about upcoming products. For several months, Qualcomm no longer uses the type number SDM855 internally to indicate the upcoming high-end soc, but SM8150, according to the message. The manufacturer then and still uses the code name Hana for the chip.

The upcoming ARM processor for laptops, which until now was referred to as Snapdragon 1000, has also received a different designation internally, according to WinFuture. Instead of SDM1000, Qualcomm would now speak of SCX8180, retaining the codename Poipu. That would indicate that this chip will come out as Snapdragon 8180.

The change might be intended to align the processor designations. WinFuture has also found indications for the arrival of socs with type numbers SM7150 and SM7250, which Oppo would use, among others. It is not known whether Qualcomm will apply rebrands from previous socs.

Qualcomm is expected to announce its new chip generations at the end of this year at its annual Tech Summit.
