Battleroyale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds may become free-to-play. That reports PUBG leaker PlayerIGN. The game’s most recent update also includes assets for a type of zombie survival mode called Zombie Defense.

Leaker PlayerIGN let us know on Twitter that the developer of PUBG wants to make the game free-to-play, GamesRadar also notes. PlayerIGN is a well-known PUBG leaker, which a few weeks ago the arrival of plane crashes predicted; that feature was added to the Taego map on Wednesday, in patch 13.1.

Developer PUBG Corporation would first hold a free-to-play week next month. During that period, the company would gauge player reactions. A decision is made on the basis of this, the leaker reports. According to PlayerIGN, the developer also wanted to switch to a free-to-play model in 2019, but did not get the response from players that it hoped during an f2p week.

There was already a free version of the battleroyale game called PUBG Lite. That game had, among other things, lower system requirements and was therefore suitable for gamers with a PC that does not meet the system requirements of the regular PUBG version. Developer PUBG Corporation discontinued that variant of the game in May, after the game had not been updated for a year.

playerIGN also endorses information about a Zombie Defense mode. The leaker didn’t predict that game mode himself; patch 13.1 would contain assets for that game mode. In Zombie Defense, players should protect themselves from waves of zombies in a circular zone on the Camp Jackal map. Gradually, players could collect survival coins, which they can spend in a shop. That’s similar to PUBG’s current Arena mode.
