Rumor: OPPO Watch 2 wearable gets a Snapdragon Wear 4100 soc
Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO is rumored to be working on a successor to its OPPO Watch wearable. The new variant would be available as a 46mm and 42mm smartwatch and get a faster Wear 4100 chip from Qualcomm.
Information about the possible smartwatch was found in a build file, a tipster tells XDA Developers. There could possibly be seven different variants available; that is, 46mm and 42mm variants with three and four different color options respectively. The tipster expects the wearable to get a Snapdragon Wear 4100 soc, because the build file mentions an ‘msm8937_32go’ soc. That matches that of the TicWatch Pro 3, which is currently the only smartwatch with a Wear 4100 chip.
The tipster also reports that the OS of the wearable is based on Android 8.1, and that the OPPO Watch 2 will not run WearOS when released in China. This would probably be the case with a possible international release. Furthermore, the alleged smartwatch would get 16GB of storage space, compared to 8GB in the current OPPO Watch.
The OPPO Watch 2 would have a rectangular design, just like its predecessor. This is evident from photos from another tipster, in which the watch is teased. OPPO itself already showed teasers of a new smartwatch during the announcement of its Reno 6 series smartphones. However, it is not yet known whether the teased watch is the OPPO Watch 2. It is also still unclear whether the smartwatch will be available exclusively in China, or whether the watch will also appear in Europe after its possible release.
