Rumor: Nvidia to release Super variants of RTX and GTX GPUs for laptops
Nvidia is set to release six new laptop video cards in March 2020. It would be Super variants of existing RTX and GTX GPUs. Nvidia already released many Super variants of its GPUs for desktops this year. There are not yet any for laptops.
NotebookCheck publishes a slide with code names of six GPUs on it. This includes the consumption, the consumption of the Max-Q version and the amount of ram. From that information it can be deduced which GPUs it should be. The Super variants, like the Super cards for desktops, may have more enabled GPU cores and faster memory.
There are two 50W GPUs on the list. One of these is presumably the GTX 1650 Super, but it’s unclear which one is the second. Nvidia already has a GTX 1660 Ti for laptops, but a Super variant of it would consume much more. NotebookCheck suggests a new 1050 Ti successor is coming.
According to NotebookCheck, Nvidia hasn’t released any Super variants of its laptop GPUs yet because there isn’t much competition at the moment. According to the site, AMD will release the RX 5700M next year, which would be positioned between the RTX 2070 and 2080. AMD has already introduced the RX 5500M and 5300M.
