Rumor: Nvidia starts production of the successor Pascal video cards in mid-June

Nvidia will start production of consumer video cards based on the successor to the Pascal GPU no earlier than mid-June, Tom’s Hardware claims based on various sources. Maps from partners should be expected in July at the earliest.

During the Game Developers Conference and Nvidia’s Graphics Technology Conference, the manufacturer would show a teaser for the new GPU. The most likely date for the official availability announcement would be August, speculates Tom’s Hardware, at GamesCom in Cologne.

Nvidia would continue to maintain a separation between GPU architectures for business and consumer GPUs. For example, it would continue to use Volta for business accelerators and the successor of Volta, according to rumors the Ampère architecture, would not get a derivative for game GPUs.

Instead, Pascal’s consumer card successor would be Turing. This code name recently appeared in a Reuters report, which picked up the name from analysts. Tom’s Hardware also uses the name Turing to indicate the next generation of GeForce GPUs, but it is not clear whether the site has also been confirmed by that name.
