Rumor: Nvidia is working on GeForce RTX 3080 Ti for laptops with GA103 GPU
Nvidia may be working on a laptop variant of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. This is according to information from Matthew Smith, who maintains the GPU database of TechPowerUp. The video card would get a GA103 chip. Further specifications are still unknown.
Matthew Smith writes on Twitter that the alleged GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Mobile would use a GA103 GPU. VideoCardz writes, based on a conversation with Smith, that the laptop video card was recently added to the PCI Device ID database.
The card was submitted by someone with the username Faintsnow, who initially added a GN20-E8 codename to the database with an ID of 2420. This submission was later updated by the same users with the product name GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and the chip type GA103 .
It is not confirmed whether Faintsnow adds GPUs to the PCI database more often, and Nvidia has never released a Ti laptop video card in this high-end market segment. Usually, the manufacturer only releases lower-ranked Ti GPUs for laptops. At the same time, VideoCardz notes that the PCI database is usually updated by people who work for GPU vendors.
A video card with GA103 GPU has never surfaced before. Nvidia’s current lineup of RTX 30 cards consists of models with GA102, GA104, GA106 and GA107 chips. The RTX 3080 Ti for laptops has also never been released before. A recent leak suggested that Nvidia is also working on a lineup of RTX 30 Super graphics cards. It is therefore also possible that the video card is given a different product name, such as RTX 3080 Super. Known Nvidia leaker kopite7kimi speculates on Twitter that the GPU can also be introduced as an RTX 3090M.
