Rumor: Nintendo is developing an Android tablet for education
Nintendo is said to be developing its own Android tablet. The tablet is not primarily aimed at playing games, but is intended for education. In addition, Nintendo would like to offer educational software.
That the Japanese Nintendo is working on a tablet is concluded by Nintendo Everything from a series tweets from Nando Monterazo, software developer at Nintendo of America. Monterazo says it is a tablet running Android. Nintendo would have significantly modified the mobile OS, but it is unclear whether the tablet will ever be marketed by the Japanese console manufacturer. Furthermore, the emphasis would be on educational software, in which well-known Nintendo game characters would appear.
Nintendo does not want to officially comment on the tablet experiments that Monterazo describes in his tweets. The software developer reports that the current implementation will not emulate old Nintendo console games, while various emulators, such as nes, snes and gameboy emulators, have already proven to be able to run Nintendo games on Android tablets without any problems.
Nintendo is rumored to be under increasing pressure from shareholders to release their game titles on other platforms, especially for mobile operating systems. The emphasis would initially be on iOS, but now the Japanese group also seems to see opportunities in the market for educational software and the Android operating system.
