Rumor: Nikon to announce two mirrorless cameras at the end of July
Nikon will reportedly announce two mirrorless cameras around July 23, one with a 25-megapixel sensor and the other with a 45-megapixel variant. The manufacturer would announce three lenses for the cameras.
At least that’s what Nikon Rumors claims, which has listed the rumors of the past few days about this. According to the site, it concerns two mirrorless cameras with a full-frame sensor, one of 24/25 megapixels and one of 45/48 megapixels. The housing would be in line with that of the Sony a7 and there would be five-axis in-body stabilization. The camera could handle XQD and CF Express type memory cards and Nikon would place particular emphasis on ergonomics.
The announcement would be accompanied by the arrival of three lenses: one of 24-70mm f/4, one of 35mm and one of 50mm. In addition, a new mount would support f/0.95 lenses. Nikon’s current mount was too small for f/0.95 lenses, while this was possible with Canon. The new mount will likely be called Z-mount and Nikon is working on an F-mount adapter to use existing glassware on that new mount for mirrorless cameras.
Nikon may announce the new cameras on or around July 23. Availability would then follow on August 23. Nikon Rumors mentions a price of 4000 euros for the 45-megapixel camera with 24-70 mm f/4 lens and 2900 euros for the mirrorless 25-megapixel camera.
Update, 10.00: Added text about possible new Z-mount.
