Rumor: Next Call of Duty game will take place in space

The version of Call of Duty, which is planned for the end of this year, may be set in space. The game should make other semi-futuristic installments of the series look old-fashioned by taking place much further in the future.

The game will feature battles in space and will be completely sci-fi, NeoGAF user shinobi602 and Eurogamer reported. Shinobi has also released accurate information about upcoming CoD titles in the past. For example, before the release of Black Ops III, he already reported that in the game you could run over walls and that characters would have mechanical arms. He also already knew that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of that game were made by a different studio than the previous versions. Eurogamer says it has heard information from other anonymous sources that matches shinobi’s claims.

The game is being developed by Infinity Ward, but will not be a direct sequel to Ghosts, the developer’s previous CoD game. This is remarkable, because the first mission of Ghosts’ campaign took place in space and aliens were already present in the Extinction mode.

The name of the game is not yet known, but Activision, the publisher of the game series, still has the rights for the designation ‘Future Warfare’. The publisher previously gave up the rights to the more appropriate title ‘Space Warfare’. The game is likely to be developed for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
