Movie studios will soon be reportedly making it possible to rent a movie faster after it hits theaters. The film studios and cinemas in the United States only have to figure out how long after the release a film should be available for rent.

Film studios are aiming for a few weeks, but it must in any case be within a month and a half, writes business newspaper The Wall Street Journal. The agreement will probably initially only apply in the United States, but once such deals exist, film studios may also implement that policy in the Benelux. Film studios have not confirmed the information.

The rent for the film must be high, according to the studios. Users must pay between $30 and $50 to watch the film. That is equal to the price of a few cinema tickets together. It is unknown whether films should also appear earlier on streaming services such as Netflix.

The film studios have been considering the move for some time and an agreement is now close. The scheme should go into effect from the end of this year, with films being released in the final months of the year. With the move, the studios want to earn more money from the release of films.
