Rumor: Motorola is working on Nexus smartphone with 5.9 “screen

Motorola is rumored to be working on a smartphone with a 5.9-inch screen that will be released under Google’s Nexus flag. The device would be codenamed Shamu, but little else is known about the specifications.

That reports the usually well-established Android Police, which claims to have sources. The suspected Nexus device from Motorola, which is currently known internally under the code name Shamu, would have a 5.9 “screen, making it the largest Nexus smartphone to date. Android Police also states that Motorola is planning to to build in a fingerprint scanner, but other specifications such as the screen resolution and processor used are still unclear.

Android Police says the Shamu is not scheduled to be released until November, with release in the United States and several other unspecified countries. Because the release is only a few months away, it is possible that changes will still be made to the plans. Also, the site is not yet able to submit images of the Shamu.

If the rumors are true, it would be the first smartphone that Motorola will release under the Nexus flag from Google. Motorola was recently sold by Google to Lenovo, but it is not known whether plans for a Nexus device were already on the table at that time.
