Rumor: Motorola is working on a smartphone with a rollable screen
Lenovo subsidiary Motorola is said to be working on a smartphone with a rollable screen. There is currently no commercially available phone with a roll-up screen. The Motorola Felix would work differently than prototypes shown so far.
The Motorola Felix would not want to turn a regular smartphone into a small tablet by making the screen wider, but would have a horizontally working rollable screen. This makes the phone smaller when put in the pocket, reports EvLeaks on 91Mobiles. The phone is still early in its development and the release is expected to take at least another year.
The Felix would thus resemble the idea of the razr phones, which have a folding screen to fold the phone in half and thus make it smaller than a regular smartphone when stored in the pocket.
That differs from the prototypes that manufacturers have shown so far. The LG Rollable, which should have been released last year, would unfold in width. Before the phone could come out, LG stopped making smartphones. OPPO showed a prototype of a phone with a rollable screen last year. TCL showed such a prototype two years ago. None of those phones have come out yet, even though manufacturers see phones with rollable screens as a possible future.
