Rumor: midrange cards with Nvidia Pascal GPU coming after the summer
Nvidia will release the first midrange video cards with GP106 GPUs in the period of August and September, claims the Swedish tech site SweClockers. The midrange products thus follow the high-end cards, which are expected in the summer.
The GP106, based on the Pascal architecture, should succeed the GM206 based on Maxwell after the summer. The GM206 is used for the GeForce GTX 960 and GTX 950. Recent versions of the latter card have a tdp of 75W and therefore do not require an additional power connection. The same will be true for the midrange cards with the GP106 due to architectural improvements and production on a 16nm process, writes SweClockers, which has a good reputation when it comes to rumors about video cards.
The midrange cards will appear after the GTX 1080 and 1070 with GP104 GPU that Nvidia will announce at the end of May, before the Computex fair in Taiwan. According to HWBattle, Nvidia has stopped shipping the GTX 980 and 970 with GM204 and GTX 980 Ti with GM200 to partners in the run-up to the transition to the cards with Pascal GPU.
A photo of the cooler of the GTX 1080 already appeared on Tuesday. Nvidia announced the first Pascal GPU at the beginning of April during its GPU Technology Conference. However, this GP100 will not appear in the Tesla P100 until early 2017 for use in servers and supercomputers.
