Rumor: Microsoft wants to put AI assistant Copilot in Windows 10

Microsoft is said to be working on backporting its Copilot feature with generative AI to Windows 10. That only works in Windows 11 so far, but there are still a billion devices running Windows 10 in circulation.

By including Copilot, Microsoft wants to get more users for its generative AI service, reports Windows Central. Windows 10 will still have about two years of support, and during that time Microsoft would like to provide the older operating system with a few new features. Copilot is one of them.

The Windows 10 taskbar will get a button for Copilot after an upgrade. Clicking that would give the same sidebar as in Windows 11 with Copilot in it. Copilot is enabled by default in Windows 11 23H2, which was recently released to all users. Windows 11 has around 400 million users, and around a billion devices are running Windows 10. That operating system was released in 2015.
