Rumor: Microsoft to announce its own tablet on Monday
Microsoft would like to announce its own tablet on Monday. All Things Digital, which is affiliated with the business newspaper The Wall Street Journal, reports this. With its own tablet, Microsoft should be able to compete better with the iPad with Windows 8.
It is unclear who produces the tablet’s hardware, but Microsoft would like to sell it under its own name, All Things Digital reports based on anonymous sources. Microsoft sent American media invitations on Thursday evening for an event Monday in the American city of Los Angeles. The PR agency that distributed the invitations does the PR for Windows and Windows Phone. The rumor about its own tablet has been going on for some time.
No details are known about the tablet, but it is obvious that it runs on Windows 8. It is probably the ARM version of Windows 8, which bears the name Windows RT. By releasing its own tablet, Microsoft would not only generate more sales, but would also be able to compete better with Apple’s tablet iPad.
Not only would Microsoft want to announce its own tablet, Google would also be working on it. Google would collaborate with Asus on a Nexus 7, a 7 “tablet with a new version of Android. Google will hold its developer conference Google I/O at the end of this month, at which that tablet may be announced.
It’s not the first time Microsoft wants to release its own hardware; in 2010, the manufacturer released two phones, the Kin One and Kin Two, both of which flopped. It also released several MP3 players under the name Zune.
It will be an important week for the Redmond software giant. An event will follow on Wednesday that focuses on the next version of Windows Phone, which has been developed under the name Apollo.
This is a mock up. No images are known of the tablet from Microsoft.
