Rumor: Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 will get Ryzen CPUs based on Zen 2
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 may get AMD Ryzen chips based on the Zen 2 microarchitecture. This means that the models do not have the newer Ryzen 5000 CPUs with Zen 3 cores. Intel Tiger Lake variants would also be available.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 would be available as a 13.5″ and 15″ variant, both of which can be supplied with Intel or AMD CPUs. This reports the German WinFuture based on its own sources. Of the current Surface Laptop 3, only the 15″ variant could be equipped with a Ryzen chip, while the 13″ variant was only available with Intel CPU. WinFuture more often publishes correct information about unannounced products. The medium already reported before release that the Surface Laptop 3 from 2019 would get a Ryzen 3000 CPU, which later turned out to be correct.
The upcoming Surface Laptop would be available with a Ryzen 5 4680U or Ryzen 7 4980U, among other things. According to the website, these are so-called Surface Edition processors, which are not used in laptops from other manufacturers. The Ryzen 5 4680U is said to have a clock speed of 2.0GHz, with a boost clock of 4.4GHz. The clock speeds of the Ryzen 7 variant are still unknown. Furthermore, the AMD variants would be available with a maximum of 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD.
Microsoft would also once again come up with Intel variants of the Surface Laptop 4. The company would release models with a Core i5-1145G7 or Core i7-1185G7. The Intel models could also be equipped with more memory and storage capacity; according to WinFuture, these variants come with up to 32GB of memory and a 1TB NVMe SSD.
The website further claims that the 13.5″ and 15″ variants will both have a 49Wh battery and an aluminum housing. The laptops would also offer support for Wi-Fi 6, Windows Hello and the Surface Pen and Dial. WinFuture claims that Microsoft will announce the Surface Laptop 4 in April. The suggested retail prices are not yet known.
