Rumor: Microsoft is working on successor Surface Duo with 5G and better camera

Microsoft is said to be working on a successor to its Android smartphone Surface Duo. The Surface Duo 2 should appear this fall and include 5G support, a better camera and a faster processor.

Microsoft has been working on the successor to the Surface Duo since the second half of last year, Windows Latest reports. This concerns, among other things, the integration of 5G, a job vacancy text mentioned earlier. Microsoft was also looking for someone to upgrade the camera app. The processor should also get an upgrade. The first model of the Surface Duo has a Snapdragon 855-soc.

In addition, Microsoft wants to improve the software, the site states. For example, Microsoft has put an Obscure Regions API in the source code of Android. This tells the software which parts of the screen are already occupied by other tasks or by the system interface.

Microsoft released its Surface Duo in the United States last September. The phone came out last month in Germany and France for 1549 euros. The Android 10 device has two screens, connected via a hinge.
