Rumor: Microsoft is working on dongle to stream games from Xbox One

Microsoft wants to announce two streaming devices at E3 game fair, says the person who first posted information about the Xbox Elite controller. One would be a dongle like the Chromecast, the second would be more like a media player.

The dongle would be about the size of a Chromecast and could stream games to, say, another TV in the house, says podcaster and Microsoft insider Brad Sams in his latest episode. The dongle would connect to an Xbox One controller for control purposes. According to Sams, the price is “around a hundred dollars or slightly lower.”

The second device would be a media player, much like the Apple TV. This device would have its own hardware and access to apps and games from the Windows Store. This allows users without a console to install and play casual games on the device.

Microsoft would like to announce both devices at the game fair E3, next month in the American city of Los Angeles. It may also unfold its plans for a more compact Xbox One there. In addition, Microsoft would like to bring the Xbox interface to PCs as a kind of replacement for the old Media Center, claims Sams.

If the ‘Xbox TV’ actually comes, it wouldn’t be Microsoft’s first dongle. The company already has a Miracast dongle on the market, with which users can send images from, for example, laptops to a TV.
