Rumor: Microsoft is working on a foldable Surface device
Microsoft is said to be working on a foldable Surface device. The suspected tablet is rumored to have two 9-inch screens with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and would run on an Intel Lakefield processor.
The Surface could run Android apps in Windows 10 Core OS, but Forbes doesn’t say exactly how that works. The financial site is based on information from analyst firm IHS Markit. Microsoft will not confirm or deny the rumor.
That Lakefield processor is built on a fuel-efficient platform for Atom and Core chips, with Intel using a configuration of powerful and energy-efficient cores, similar to ARM’s big.Little concept. The processor has a maximum TDP of 5W. It would also have an always-on mobile data connection.
There have been rumors for years about such a device, which Microsoft would develop under the name Andromeda. The device should be released in the first half of 2020. The design is somewhat reminiscent of the canceled Microsoft Courier from ten years ago.
