Microsoft may be planning to release a refresh of its Xbox Series X and S consoles. The lower-ranked Series S would be the first to get a new version, with an AMD soc made on TSMC’s 6nm process.

According to YouTube user Moore’s Law is Dead, the Xbox Series S refresh will appear in 2022. An Xbox Series X refresh may follow in 2023 or later, but the YouTuber is not sharing any details about that yet.

The 6nm soc in this Series S console may offer better specs than the current Series S. According to the YouTube user, the move to TSMC’s 6nm node should provide better yields, allowing Microsoft perhaps the full 24 compute units of the soc. turns on. The current Xbox Series S has 20 compute units. The clock speeds may also be higher in the new variant.

Moore’s Law is Dead claims that the alleged console refresh would get a higher price. The updated Xbox Series S would cost $349; a $50 price increase over the current Xbox Series S. This legacy variant may remain available at a price of $189 to $249.
