Rumor: Lumia 940 and 940XL have USB type-c and removable battery
Rumors about the Lumia 940 and 940XL have surfaced on the internet. The two devices should follow the current top model Lumia 930. According to the rumors, the devices have USB-type-c, a removable battery and an appearance that is reminiscent of the Lumia 830.
Data about the new devices would have come into the hands of the German site Winfuture, which claims to rely on a source in the Microsoft environment. Winfuture also released a video last year showing the new Windows 10 start menu early on; moreover, the message is in line with previous rumours.
In terms of design, both devices are based on the Lumia 830, according to Winfuture. The frame is said to be made of metal, while the back consists of polycarbonate. The camera would also be accentuated again by a striking, round cutout in the housing. In contrast to the Lumia 930, the back of the 940 and 940XL would be removable, so that the batteries with a capacity of 3000 and 3300mAh respectively can be exchanged. Both devices would be equipped with the new USB type-c port.
The hardware specifications mentioned by Winfuture are in line with what came out earlier. Both devices would have a display with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The Lumia 940, previously codenamed Talkman, would have a 5.2″ display. The 940XL, previously called Citiman, would be a bit larger with a 5.7″ screen. According to the rumors, the devices also have 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage memory and a PureView camera of 20 megapixels. On the front would be a 5 megapixel camera.
Earlier rumors already indicated that the devices would be equipped with a 64-bit soc. According to Winfuture, the Lumia 940 is probably the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, a hexacore soc that is also used in the LG G4. The Lumia 940XL would have a Qualcomm soc with eight cores, which indicates the Snapdragon 810 or 615, although the latter soc is more intended for middle-class phones.
The smartphones should follow the current top model, the Lumia 930. Microsoft would therefore wait for the release of Windows 10 for smartphones. Earlier, a roadmap came online showing that the devices should be released this fall.
