Rumor: LG delivers OLED screens for successor iPhone 11

LG would supply the OLED screens for the successor to the iPhone 11, reports a South Korean site. This would involve 20 million of the 75 million OLED screens that Apple thinks it will need for the iPhone 12 models before the end of the year.

LG already supplies OLED screens for the Apple Watch and perhaps as a replacement for the original screens of older models, but it would be the first time that the screen manufacturer supplies the OLED screens for new iPhones, reports The Elec. The site has often shown that it has a lot of information about the South Korean screen manufacturers.

This only concerns the direct successor of the iPhone 11, the cheaper model with a 6.1 “screen. According to the site, the more expensive Pro models will receive a screen from Samsung, where the touch-sensitive layer would be in the screen itself for a brighter picture.

The Elec’s information contradicts that of Jon Prosser, who claimed that Apple buys screens from China’s BOE. According to The Elec, Apple is not satisfied with the quality of the BOE panels and the iPhone manufacturer has therefore switched to LG as a supplier.

Rumor has it that there will be four models of iPhones. The two less expensive models have 5.4″ and 6.1″ screens, while the Pro models have 6.1″ and 6.7″ displays. The phones should be released this fall and according to The Elec, Samsung will supply 55 million screens for the new generation of iPhones. In addition, it seems that Apple is counting on to deliver 75 million copies. That’s roughly in line with iPhone deliveries in the fourth quarter of last year. According to analysts, Apple shipped about 74 million copies at the time.
