Rumor: Lenovo to release Y50 gaming laptop with GeForce GTX 960M in March

Lenovo is reportedly planning to release three new variants of its popular Y50 gaming-cum-multimedia laptops in March. All models would get a new GTX 960M and with the models with full HD resolution, the tn panel is exchanged for an IPS variant.

The site LaptopMedia claims to have heard from a source that the Y50 laptop from Lenovo in March in three variants with the GTX 960M. Since the GTX 960M, 950M and 940M are due to be released in the near future, the claim is not improbable. The GeForce GTX 960M is very similar in specifications to the GTX 860M, the GPU in the current versions of the Y50. In both cases it is a Maxwell GPU with 640 Cuda cores. However, the clock speeds can be higher.

Another adjustment compared to the current line of Y50 models would concern the screen: all models get an IPS screen, where Lenovo now equips the cheap versions with a TN panel. According to LaptopMedia, the cheapest version in the new series will cost 1120 euros and the buyer will receive a model with Core i7-4720HQ, 1TB SSD with 8GB flash cache and an IPS screen with full HD resolution. The version with UHD screen and 512GB SSD would have a suggested retail price of 1400 euros and a variant with 1TB SSD with 8GB would cost around 1200 euros.
