Rumor: iPad gets split-screen mode and multi-account support
Apple is reportedly working on the ability to run two apps side by side on an iPad, as well as two windows of the same app. The tablet would also receive support for different users. The features would mainly be intended for the new iPad Pro.
Apple would like to announce the ability to run two apps side by side at its WWDC conference next month, 9to5Mac writes, citing unnamed sources.
The functionality, already present on Windows tablets, would allow users to run two apps side by side, with either app taking up half the screen or one of the apps taking up one-third and the second one taking up two-thirds. It may also be possible to run two windows of the same app side by side, so that, for example, two documents in Pages can be edited at the same time.
Apple seems to be developing the functionality mainly for the new iPad Pro, about which rumors have been circulating for some time and which is aimed at the business market. It is therefore possible that the feature will not come to existing iPads, 9to5Mac speculates. The new tablet, which has been rumored for some time, would have a 12 “screen. It is also rumored that users can connect USB keyboards and other USB equipment.
In addition, Apple is said to be working on support for multiple accounts on one tablet. Multiple users can log in to the iPad, where they only have access to their own documents and other data. Apple reportedly considers that feature a requirement for the iPad Pro’s success in the business market. It is unclear whether existing iPads will also receive this feature.
