Rumor: Intel to release Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X in August
Intel will release its X299 platform and associated Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors in August, Benchlife claims. Earlier, the Taiwanese website already published a roadmap with the high-end processors on it.
The Gamescom on August 22 may be used as a moment to introduce the high-end platform, Benchlife writes. The platform consists of motherboards with a new Lga 2066 socket and X299 chipset, and four processors will appear. Three of them are based on the Skylake architecture and one processor is a Kaby Lake chip.
According to Benchlife, the Skylake-X processors are CPUs with a TDP of 140 watts and variants with ten, eight and six cores are expected. The Kaby Lake-X processor would be a quad-core with a TDP of 112 watts. Nothing is known about the clock speeds of the CPUs.
According to the Taiwanese website, Intel is making changes to the cache of the new processors, which should improve performance. It is not yet clear what exactly will be changed. Like the Z270 chipset, the X299 platform will receive support for Intel Optane SSDs. There will also be support for four-channel DDR4-2667 memory.
It is not yet clear which number designations the lga 2066 processors will receive, but it is obvious that they will receive a place in the i7-7000 series, just like the current Kaby Lake processors. Current Broadwell-E chips have a Core i7-68XX or 69XX designation.
Benchlife already published a roadmap last year in which Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X are mentioned as successors to Broadwell-E. The Taiwanese website regularly publishes information about new Intel processors that have not yet been officially announced.
