Rumor: Intel is working on NUCs with 28W Coffee Lake quad-cores
Intel is working on compact NUC systems with Coffee Lake U quad-cores. According to rumors, it would be processors with 28W TDPs instead of the more economical 15W variants. In addition, a new gaming NUC is planned.
There will be three variants of the NUC with Coffee Lake-U chips, Fanless Tech reports. The site reports correctly more often about unannounced NUC models from Intel. Intel would like to equip the upcoming compact computer with a Core i3 quad-core without HyperThreading and a Core i5 and i7 quad-core with HyperThreading.
It would not be 15W variants, which also appear in the U-line of processors, but more powerful 28W versions. Intel announced in mid-August 15W quad-cores of the eighth Core generation based on Kaby Lake Refresh. The Coffee Lake U variants are also expected to be released as the eighth Core generation and both Kaby lake Refresh and Coffee Lake will be produced at 14nm. Earlier rumors showed that Coffee Lake’s GPU is the Graphics 640, or GT3e, with 64MB edram.
According to Fanless Tech, Intel is also working on a successor to its Skull Canyon-NUC. This is a NUC intended for gaming purposes. The specifications of the successor are not yet known, but according to Fanless Tech, the NUC will in any case get a processor with integrated gpu with edram.
