Rumor: Intel Introduces X299 HEDT Platform In June
Details of Intel’s X299 platform codenamed Basin Falls have surfaced on the internet. According to previous rumors, the platform for Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors would appear in August, but Intel is said to have postponed the release to June.
Intel would no longer like to introduce the Basin Falls X platform at Gamescom in August, but at Computex at the end of May, beginning of June. That writes Benchlife, which often correctly publishes internal Intel information. Why Intel is pushing the introduction is not clear, but Benchlife makes a connection with the alleged arrival of AMD’s X399 platform.
With that platform, with Ryzen processors with twelve and sixteen cores, AMD would like to compete with Intel’s hedt platform. Intel’s X299 platform will be compatible with Kaby Lake X and Skylake X processors. Three processors, with ten, eight and six cores, are based on the Skylake architecture and one processor, a quad-core, is a Kaby Lake chip. The three Skylake X chips are expected to be CPUs with a TDP of 140 Watts, while the Kaby Lake variant has a TDP of 112W. The chips will be named Core i7-7000 and will use the LGA 2066 socket, which Basin Falle would give the Socket R4 designation.
In combination with Skylake, the X299 platform will receive support for 44 pci-e 3.0 lanes, with Kaby Lake that is sixteen. Furthermore, Skylake-X has support for quad-channel DDR4, while Kaby Lake-X has dual-channel.
