Rumor: Huawei Mate 9 gets variant with curved screen
According to a new rumor, the Huawei Mate 9 will get a variant with a curved screen, just like Samsung’s Edge phones. The variants with a curved screen also have a Home button below the screen.
The flat-screen Mate 9 will be called Manhattan, according to Venturebeat author Evan Blass, also known by his Twitter name @evleaks, while the curved-display variant would be called Long Island. These are devices with a different design. The flat version has the Huawei logo below the screen and presumably the fingerprint scanner on the back, while the curved version has the scanner below the screen in a Home button.
In addition, Blass says, the specifications also differ. His sources aren’t sure about it, but the flat version has a screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, while the curved version has 2560×1440 pixels on the screen. In addition, when it comes to an Edge screen from Samsung, it is an OLED. Huawei used LCDs on its Mate 8 and Mate 7. The Mate S and P9 Plus have OLED screens.
The Mate 9 would have a 6″ screen and run on a Kirin 960-soc from Huawei’s own HiSilicon hardware division. The size of elements of the phone in the render indicates that it is a phone of approximately 152x79mm in size. , about the size of the iPhone 7 Plus. The device has a dual camera in collaboration with Leica, just like on the P9. It would again be a black and white and an RGB sensor. The resolution is 20 megapixels.
Huawei will hold an event in Germany in early November to announce the Mate 9. It is not clear when the Android smartphone should come out.
