Rumor: Huawei makes P9 variant with two camera lenses
Huawei is reportedly coming this year with four variants of the P9, including a model with a dual-camera setup. It would be a generation of the dual-camera technology that Huawei introduced with the Honor 6 Plus.
It is not yet clear what exactly the improvements are compared to the cameras of that device, but it is at least about 12-megapixel sensors, while the Honor 6 Plus has two 8-megapixel cameras. The advantage of such a dual camera setup is the ability to perform fast autofocus, adjust depth of field afterwards and increase the effective pixel size for extra light sensitivity.
The Huawei P9 variant with two cameras would be released alongside three other P9 models this year, claims Evan Blass at VentureBeat. Blass is also behind Twitter account @EVleaks, which has a virtually flawless track record when it comes to smartphone rumours. According to him, Huawei will also come with a regular P9, a cheaper P9lite and a more extensive P9max model.
Strikingly enough, no device would have the resolution of 1440×2560 pixels, such as the Nexus 6P from Huawei. Huawei would aim for longer battery life with lower resolutions. According to Blass, the manufacturer will not announce the smartphones during the Mobile World Congress, which will take place at the end of February, but only a few weeks after that.
