Rumor: HTC to come with smaller U11 variant with Snapdragon 660-soc
HTC is rumored to be working on a slightly smaller variant of the U11 smartphone, with mid-range specifications. It would be a device with a 5.2 “screen. As with the U11, the edges of the phone can be used to launch apps.
According to custom ROM developer LlabTooFeR, the codename of the new phone is Ocean Life. HTC internally used the code name Ocean for the U11. The developer mentions in a tweet the main specifications of the device. The screen would have a full-HD resolution and there are 16-megapixel cameras on both the front and back, according to the message.
Furthermore, the Ocean Life would have a 2600mAh battery and run on Android 7.1.1, with HTC’s Sense 9.0 shell on top. Nothing has been disclosed about the housing or appearance, but the phone is said to be equipped with HTC’s Edge Sense, just like the U11. That is an operating method with which apps can be started by touching the sides of the device.
The code name and presence of Edge Sense suggest that it is a device that will also have similarities with the U11. The developer does not provide concrete information about when the new device would come.
The Snapdragon 660-soc that will probably come in the device was announced by Qualcomm in May. It is the first mid-range SOC from the American processor designer that uses the self-designed Kryo cores. The 660 has four Kryo 260 cores at 2.2GHz and four smaller and more fuel-efficient Kryo 260 cores at 1.8GHz.
