Rumor: HTC is making fitness bracelet compatible with iPhones
According to a Chinese leak, HTC is making a wearable with an elongated screen and fitness functions. The fitness bracelet, codenamed Petra, is said to have a 1.8″ screen with a 5:1 ratio.
The resolution of the 1.8″ screen would be 160×32 pixels and it would be a pmoled screen, a variant of OLED that is mainly used for small devices. PMOLED screens have been used more often in wearables in recent years, such as the Sony Ericsson LiveView The screen would measure approximately 4.5×0.9cm.
According to UpLeaks, which last year appeared to have more accurate information regarding unannounced HTC products, the wearable runs on a Cortex M3 processor from STMicroelectronics. The wearable would run on software developed by HTC, making it compatible with both Android phones and iPhones. HTC’s Re action camera also works with iPhones.
HTC would also include a ‘footpod’ in the box to more accurately analyze footsteps. The battery life of the wearable is said to be more than three days. Upleaks mentions that HTC uses the codename Petra for the device.
It is obvious that the manufacturer makes a wearable for fitness. In January, the Taiwanese smartphone maker announced a partnership with fitness company Under Armour, but it didn’t showcase any new products at the time. HTC will hold a press conference on Sunday 1 March prior to the Mobile World Congress telecom fair. There it also reportedly presents the successor or successors for the HTC One M8.
