Rumor: Google wants to buy streaming service Songza

Google is said to be in talks about an acquisition of Songza, a streaming service that tries to offer music based on the listener’s mood. The internet giant would have an amount of 15 million dollars for the company.

At least that’s what two sources say to The New York Post. The two would disagree about the amount that Google is willing to pay for Songza in New York. For example, fifteen million dollars might be too low and the search giant might want to put more on the table.

Songza is six years old and bases its playlists on the advice of ‘music experts’, who try to contribute music according to the time of day, mood or activity. There are playlists for getting up, for during exercise and for when concentration is required.

It is not clear what exactly Google would want with Songza, but the internet giant may want to integrate the music service into its Play Music. The rumor comes just after Apple acquired Beats for $3 billion. In addition to a headphone branch, Beats also has the young music streaming service Beats Music, in which the company also tries to provide music lovers with advice. To this end, collaboration was sought with numerous musicians who provide tips and playlists.
