Rumor: Google is working on three Pixel watches for release this fall
Google is reportedly working on three different watches under its Pixel brand name. It would be the first smartwatches with the brand name of the search giant on it. The watches would have a new Qualcomm soc for wearables on board.
The watches would be codenamed Ling, Triton and Sardine, WinFuture reports. Presumably these are models with and without some functions, such as 4G and GPS. In addition, Google wants one or more of the models to work standalone, so without a connected phone. For this, the smartwatch must, among other things, support calling via 4G. All watches would also have a working memory of 1GB or more.
The project has been delayed several times, the German site claims. For example, supplier Compal Electronics would have supplied a design at the end of last year that did not meet the requirements. A release was first planned this spring, but that turns out not to be possible.
In addition, Google wants to wait for the successor to the outdated Snapdragon Wear 2100-soc. This Wear 3100 still has the outdated Cortex A7 processor cores, but there would be many techniques to make the battery last longer, such as BlackGhost.
The search giant recently rebranded its wearables operating system. It’s no longer called Android Wear, but Wear OS. In addition to Pixel watches, models with the new soc would also arrive from fashion brands.
