Rumor: Google is working on Google Now in-car functionality
Google is said to be working on a way to invoke its Google Now functionality for Android without touching and viewing the smartphone. That is what AndroidPolice claims, which claims to have internal information about the project.
AndroidPolice reports that Google is experimenting with ways to search without eye contact and physical contact via the Search App on an Android device. This would be especially helpful if the user needs to focus on something else, such as when driving. For that reason, the project would be known as the KITT project, named after the ‘intelligent’ car of the same name.
The Search App can be called up from any window and from any application, according to AndroidPolice, with the ‘Ok Google’ voice command. The functionality thus shows similarities with the Touchless Control function of the Motorola Moto X, which has been possible for some time. Search could also be called up by moving a hand above the device or connecting a bluetooth headset to the device, AndroidPolice claims based on ‘reliable’ information.
While driving, the Search App provides, among other things, more detailed information about the search results and the weather, which are reportedly read aloud, according to AndroidPolice. In addition, the app could remember the desired results, to read back at a suitable time later. It is not certain whether this will also be implemented in the final version; AndroidPolice writes that Google is still investigating the best way to present the search results later.
After all, the Search App would have a simple interface during an activity such as driving. Only a black screen can be seen with a blue or red dot, which respectively mean that the application offers and asks for information.
