Rumor: Google is developing console and game streaming service
Google would be working on its own game console and on a service to stream games via that console or via a Chromecast. The search giant is said to have discussed the service with game developers and it should be released later this year.
The game streaming service is codenamed Yeti, The Information reports. The console would have its own controller to play the games and the entire project is led by Google top people Mario Queiroz and Majd Bakar. Google had actually planned to release Yeti at the end of last year, but postponed the service.
When the service comes, Google will compete with services like GeForce Now and PlayStation Now, which offer the same. The news site reports that the search giant is in talks with big names from the gaming industry, but does not name names. Google has not commented on the story.
The Information notes that this isn’t Google’s first time working on gaming hardware. It would have wanted to release a console with Android before, but those projects were eventually canceled because the top of Google would see too little in such a device.
