Rumor: Google is considering removing application list from Android

Google would plan to no longer include an application list in a new version of Android. Early versions of Android N would no longer include this ‘app drawer’, although it is not yet clear whether Google has made a final decision on removing it.

The rumors come from Android Authority, which obtained the information from two sources. According to the site, Google is not satisfied with the functioning of the application list and this would underlie the possible decision to remove the feature from the mobile operating system. That would mean placing applications on the home screen and scrolling through it horizontally, similar to iOS.

Because Google itself has not said anything about the plans and there are no public versions of the upcoming new Android version, which is indicated by the letter N, it is not yet possible to say whether the information from Android Authority is correct. Although early versions would be tested internally that do not contain an application list, it is possible that Google later chooses to add this feature.

Google is expected to release the new version of Android in the fall, but the announcement is already expected during Google I/O, which will be held May 18-20 in San Francisco. Earlier rumors showed that the internet giant wants to build better support for virtual reality in Android.
