Rumor: Google is building new, consistent interface for Android, iOS and web
Google is rumored to be building a new, consistent interface for Android, the web, and iOS under the name Quantum Paper. In addition, Google wants to put a framework online that will allow developers to build apps with the same interface elements.
Quantum Paper isn’t just about static interface elements like icons and a solid color bar at the top, it’s also about interaction design, the way users interact with an app or website. Google wants to make it universal for all its apps and services on Android, iOS and the web, Android Police claims.
The project aims to ensure that all apps and services from Google work in a consistent way, making them easier for users to find. Google has tried that before with Holo and a series of developer guidelines since Android 4.0, but according to Android Police, Quantum Paper goes a step further.
Traces of Quantum Paper can already be found in several new apps from Google, such as a leaked Google+ app. The Android fan site claims that Google will slowly update all of its apps to align them with Quantum Paper ahead of the next major release of Android.
While Android Police doesn’t seem to think that Google will announce Quantum Paper at the Google I/O developer conference in two weeks, there seems to be a chance. According to previous statements from the internet company, Google I/O is largely dominated by design and interface.
