Rumor: Facebook is building music video service

Spread the love

Facebook is building a service that allows users to upload music videos to the social network. That reports a well-known music site. In addition, the social network would eventually like to build a competitor for Spotify.

The music video service should be live within a few months, Music Ally has learned from anonymous sources. Facebook would have purchased a service that, like YouTube’s Content ID, finds out when the music of which artist can be heard in a user’s video. Then Facebook pays the corresponding royalties.

In addition to music videos, Facebook is also thinking about a music streaming service, such as Spotify, Apple Music or Google Play Music. Facebook is even less advanced with that plan, so it is unknown at this stage whether it will come to fruition and, if so, how it will happen. Facebook can build it itself or buy a company for it.
