Rumor: Discord suspends talks with Microsoft over possible acquisition
Discord would have stopped talks with Microsoft about a possible takeover, insiders report to The Wall Street Journal. Discord would no longer be interested in a takeover and would like to go public itself.
According to previous rumors, the chat service was in talks with the tech giant about an acquisition, which would involve at least USD 10 billion. According to the rumors, Discord has stopped talks and the company itself wants to go public.
Microsoft would not be the first party with which Discord has spoken about an acquisition. There would also be interest from Epic Games and Amazon in a takeover. Since March this year, there have been rumors about talks with Microsoft, but that deal does not seem to be going ahead either.
Discord has approximately 140 million users worldwide. In 2020, the company had a turnover of 130 million dollars. According to The Wall Street Journal, the company is not yet profitable, which would make an IPO more difficult.
