Rumor: Cheaper version Apple Vision Pro costs $1500-2500
Apple would like to make a cheaper version of its VR headset Vision Pro, partly by removing the screen on the outside. There would also be a different SoC and there would be fewer sensors on the outside. The price would be between 1500 and 2500 dollars.
That is considerably cheaper than the $3500 of the Vision Pro, notes Bloomberg author Mark Gurman. However, it is still much more expensive than the competing Quest headsets from Meta, previously sold under the Oculus brand. The Quest 3 will be released for 550 euros and there would also be a cheaper version.
While the Vision Pro has an M2 SoC on board, the cheaper Vision Pro variant is a SoC that is also in iPhones. These are socks like the A17 Pro and A16 Bionic. Without a screen on the outside, others cannot see the user’s eyes. That feature is called EyeSight. It is unknown what impact removing some of the exterior cameras and sensors would have. The regular Vision Pro will be released early next year. Whether and when the cheaper version will be released is unknown.
