The cheaper version of the Nintendo Switch will be released at the end of June, says financial news agency Bloomberg. Later this year, there would be a separate ‘modest upgrade’ for the existing version of the Switch.

According to Bloomberg, Nintendo will speak about the new hardware for the first time when announcing the quarterly figures, Bloomberg claims. The financial news agency often has correct information about unannounced products in the tech industry. The presentation of the quarterly figures is Thursday. Discussing the new device would be necessary, because starting production of a new device will involve costs and Nintendo will provide an estimate of the upcoming quarterly figures in which it will therefore incur costs for the new device.

It is unknown when Nintendo will present the cheaper version of the Switch. There have been rumors about the device for some time. Nintendo would see it as a successor to the 3DS handheld. To keep the price down, Nintendo would remove functions from the device, such as the controller’s vibration function. Specs of the device, such as the size and resolution of the screen or the soc used, are still unknown.
