Rumor has it that Canon will announce a large number of new products next Friday, including two DSLRs with over 50 megapixels. This rumor has been around for some time, but is becoming increasingly plausible. Sony and Nikon would soon also come with 50+ megapixel cameras.

According to sources from Canonrumors.com, it concerns two cameras with a full-frame sensor of 53 megapixels. It probably concerns two variants with and without a low-pass filter, just like the Nikon D800 and D800E at the time. For Canon, such a camera would be a big step, because currently the EOS 5D Mark III offers the highest resolution, with 22 megapixels. Sony and Nikon have both had 36 megapixel cameras in their portfolio for some time now. It is not yet clear under which name the new model will be released.

A large number of other products are also expected. This would involve the EOS 750D, an EOS M3 mirrorless camera, the previously leaked EF 11-24 mm f/4 L and a number of PowerShot cameras. According to other rumors, Sony and Nikon are also coming up with a 50-megapixel camera in the short term. According to Canonrumors, the manufacturer would have an event on Friday, February 6 at which the company will present the new cameras.

Canon’s cameras don’t come as a complete surprise. At the end of last year, Canon already confirmed that it was working on high-resolution cameras.
