Rumor: Canon comes with professional 46-megapixel DSLR

A rumor has emerged on a forum that Canon plans to release a 46-megapixel camera for the professional market next month. The rumor is in line with previous reports of the possible arrival of a new 11-24mm f/4L lens from Canon.

The rumors originated in a short message from a valued user on the FredMiranda forum. According to the user, Canon will launch the 46-megapixel camera at the Javits Center in New York next month. Although sites that take over the rumor, such as Canon Rumors, are reluctant, such a release would not be illogical.

At the end of October, the PhotoPlus International Conference will take place in the Javits Center. The reason that Canon is introducing a new dslr there, and not at the Photokina, could be that it is a trade fair for the professional market in New York and the upcoming model is also aimed at that market. Previously, rumors appeared on, among others, PetaPixel about the arrival of an EF 11-24 mm f/4L lens from Canon, which was not announced at Photokina and whose release could coincide with that of a new dslr. The price of the new pro camera would be between 8000 and 9000 dollars.

The last camera in Canon’s 1D series, the Canon 1D X, dates back to 2011 and is mainly focused on action photography. A successor to the 1Ds series, widely used by studio photographers, has not yet been released. Canon has to lose out in that area against the Nikon D800/D810, with its 36.3 megapixels.
