Rumor: Blizzard is working on a mobile Warcraft game with Pokémon Go elements
Blizzard has a mobile game in development around its Warcraft franchise, Kotaku claims based on conversations with developers at the company. The game is said to be similar to Pokémon Go in terms of game mode.
According to Kotaku’s sources, there are many fans of mobile games within Blizzard and the reaction internally to Diablo Immortal, for example, has been very different from that of some of the audience at Blizzcon. The announcement of that mobile game was widely criticized as fans hoped for news surrounding a PC game and the mobile game was based on a Chinese game.
Many Blizzard employees would also play Pokémon Go, including the person who was previously the chief designer of World of Warcraft. As a result, an incubation team at the company would be working on a Warcraft version of that augmented reality game. The game would be more extensive than Niantic’s game and include a single player mode.
During Blizzcon, Blizzard already admitted that the company has several mobile games in development “for all series”. The developer did not provide any examples or details about those games at the time. The most recent Warcraft announcement is Warcraft III: Reforged, a polished version of the game from 2002.
