Rumor: Bigger iPhones Are Going to Look Like iPhone 5c and iPod nano

The larger iPhones due to hit the market this year would look similar to the iPhone 5c and iPod nano. That reports a usually reliable Japanese Apple blog. The phones would be much longer and wider than current iPhones.

Apple would release two larger iPhones with a 4.7″ screen and 5.7″ screen, Mac Otakara reports. That blog was the first to correctly mention the 4″ screen of the device now known as iPhone 5 and the dual LED flash of the iPhone 5s.

The 4.7″ iPhone would measure 14x7cm, compared to 12.4×5.9cm of the current iPhone 5s and 5c. The 5.7″ model would measure 16x8cm. Both phones would therefore have approximately the same bezels in height and width as current iPhones; Apple would leave around 1.5cm on each side next to the screen, at the top and bottom, around 0.5cm on the sides.

The Japanese blog is inconclusive about the thickness of the devices: if Apple makes the housing 7mm thick, the camera module would protrude at the back, as is the case with many other smartphones. By making the housing 0.5mm thicker, Apple would not let the camera stick out.

The design is said to take inspiration from the iPhone 5c and the seventh generation iPod nano. That probably indicates a colored aluminum housing with rounded corners, but the blog does not go into that. However, Apple would use the buttons and rounded shapes of the 5c.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is also working on a major update for its Maps app for iOS 8. This would include improved data and public transport route planning. Unsurprisingly, rumors of a next iPhone and iOS version are flaring up. There are still few rumors that talk about release dates for the new iOS and iPhones, but that happened in September or October in recent years.
