Rumor: arrival of Android Silver smartphones has been postponed

For the time being, there are no high-end Android devices without bloatware. That reports an American tech site. The so-called Android Silver smartphones are rumored to be coming out in February, but that now seems very unlikely.

It’s unclear if Android Silver smartphones will come later; for the time being, the program is ‘on hold’, writes The Information on the basis of anonymous sources. The departure in July of Nikesh Arora, one of the key contributors to the project, is said to have contributed to this.

It therefore seems unlikely that the first Android Silver smartphones will come out next year, as was rumored last spring. Google would doubt whether the project will be a success and would like to focus more on Android One for the time being, a line of cheap smartphones about which more information came out on Monday.

Android Silver was to become a line of high-end Android smartphones. In addition, Google would help manufacturers make and promote the devices, but on the other hand, manufacturers would not be allowed to supply bloatware such as their own interface layer. The devices should also be updated faster.

Initially, it was rumored that Silver would replace the Nexus line of devices, but later Google indicated that the Nexus line will continue to exist. Nexus devices are also delivered without bloatware and are quickly provided with updates.
